Gas Transitioning
Helping industrial customers replace coal and natural gas with torrefied wood pellets and briquettes produced from New Zealand forestry residues.
The Gas Transitioning Customers programme is Orana Resources' flagship initiative, working alongside New Zealand manufacturers, food processors, dairy operators and process-heat users who are actively moving away from coal and natural gas. Rising carbon costs under the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme, tightening decarbonisation targets and volatile fossil fuel prices have made the switch to renewable process heat a commercial priority as well as an environmental one.
Our torrefied wood pellets and briquettes are engineered to slot directly into existing coal- and gas-fired boilers with minimal capital retrofit. Torrefaction produces a densified, water-resistant, high-energy fuel with higher calorific value than conventional wood pellets, cleaner combustion, lower particulate emissions, and improved handling and storage properties. This means customers can drop our fuel into their current combustion equipment and immediately displace fossil energy without rebuilding their plant.
Each engagement begins with a fuel-switch assessment of the customer's boiler, feed system, and thermal load profile. From there, we plan the pellet or briquette specification, supply volumes, logistics, and delivery cadence, and then support commissioning and ongoing performance monitoring. The outcome is measurable emissions abatement, reduced exposure to ETS carbon pricing, and a renewable, locally sourced fuel supply drawn from New Zealand forestry residues that would otherwise decompose and release methane.
Forestry Harvesting & Waste Recovery
Recovering wood waste that would otherwise decompose and release methane, and turning it into feedstock for biomass energy.
Working with Iwi and landowners and forestry operators across rural New Zealand, Orana Resources harvests and aggregates the wood residues left behind by conventional forestry. This closes the loop in a circular economy — preventing methane emissions from unmanaged decomposition, supporting sustainable land use, and creating regional jobs in the green economy while feeding our torrefaction supply chain.
Torrefied Briquette Manufacturing
Turning forestry residues and processed wood waste into densified, high-energy torrefied briquettes for domestic use and export.
Orana Resources collects forestry residues, agricultural byproducts and processed wood waste and converts them through torrefaction — a clean thermochemical process — into densified briquettes with higher energy content than raw wood pellets, improved moisture resistance and lower transport emissions per unit of energy delivered. The product is compatible with existing coal-fired infrastructure and supports both local decarbonisation and export markets seeking a drop-in renewable solid fuel.
